Thanks to several springs coming out of the base of the valley wall nearby, this part of the trail used to become a small stream in the spring, flowing from the lower left to the right between the large trees. To avoid having to slosh 50 or 60 feet during that time of year, the trail was moved to the right of the trouble spot closer to the valley wall. Deadfall is used to visually indicate the new route, and the normal flow of the spring melt was diverted out to Sixmile Run to the upper left by creating a small rock wall and cutting a ditch through rock and roots.
