Located near the edge of the Allegheny Front between several vistas, this unfortunate tree became a lightning rod sometime in the spring of 2000. A strip of wood several inches wide and about 3/4 of an inch thick was blown off the side of it from the base of the tree up about 25 feet. The trail can be seen passing right next to it, aided by a familiar orange blaze that remained untouched by the incident.
